Migration is an inherent human drive. From the moment humanity first walked upright, we have walked our way across the face of the Earth. The United States of America is a nation of immigrants, including indigenous peoples who walked across land bridges that no longer exist. An understanding of human evolution and anthropology tells us that migration in search of a better life is a fundamental instinct. We do not believe that migration is wrong or that any human should be branded as illegal when trying to find a better life.
Thanks to our country founders, all people in the United States, regardless of immigration status, have certain rights and protections under the U.S. Constitution. Red Cards were created to help immigrants understand and assert their rights and to defend themselves against constitutional violations.
Knowing and asserting rights can make a huge difference in many situations, such as when ICE agents set their sights on a home or place of employment with the intention of detaining and deporting undocumented peoples. Red cards provide critical information in Spanish on how to assert these Constitutional protections, along with an explanation to ICE agents in English that the individual is choosing to do so.
